Imperial Russian Naval Uniforms
during the Concert of Europe

(1816-1825)

In this section we will track the changes in naval uniforms following the Napoleonic Wars.  As few relics are available from this period, we will do this by following the regulations issued to naval personnel for the wearing of uniforms during the period.  As artifacts (buttons, headgear, cockades, etc) become available we will display them here.

Imperial Navy Uniform Regulations (1)

One means of understanding the military life is to look over the changes that were made to the uniforms of the soldiers and sailors of the period.  What is interesting is that the naval uniforms had ceased changing by 1812 as apparently the navy (and Tsar Alexander I) was satisfied with the wartime uniforms and saw no reason to alter them any further.  Change would only come with the death of the Tsar in 1825.  A single regulation in late December, which would be a harbinger of the many uniform changes that took place under Tsar Nicholas I.

Date Naval Uniform Change

30 December A single-breasted uniform fasted with nine buttons was introduced for naval line and naval ordnance generals.
